Before you start: key tips for beginners
Are you thinking about starting to train with dumbbells but don't know where to begin? You're in the right place! Whether you want to tone up, build strength or improve your health, dumbbells are an ideal tool for training at home in a progressive and safe way.

In this article we explain how to get started with weights according to your level, along with some basic exercises to begin from scratch. We also include a special selection of dumbbells from our store so you can start with the right equipment.
1. Stay motivated with realistic goals
You don't need to be in shape to start. What matters is having the desire to improve and setting small but clear goals, for example, doing three workouts a week for one month. Consistency is more important than intensity!
2. Adapt your training to your level and goals
Everyone starts from a different point, and that should be reflected in how you train. Listening to your body and being realistic about your abilities is key to progressing without injuries or frustration.
If you're just starting out, it's best to begin with light dumbbells (1–2 kg) and basic exercises that allow you to master technique and build confidence.
If you already have some experience, you can gradually increase the weight and intensity, always prioritising the quality of your movement.
If you have physical limitations or are overweight, focus first on improving your mobility, stability and core strength. A well-aligned body that is strong at its base responds better to resistance training.

There is no single correct path. Adjust your routine to what your body needs today, and keep progressing step by step.
3. What weight should you use when starting?
Don't worry about lifting heavy weights. The most important thing at the beginning is learning correct technique: a straight back, controlled breathing and slow, safe movements.
Start with a weight that lets you do between 10 and 15 repetitions without losing form or reaching muscle failure. If at the end of the set you could do 2 more repetitions, that's your ideal weight.
Once you can complete 3 sets with ease, increase the load a little. Progress should be gradual and safe.
4. Easy routine: dumbbell exercises for beginners
Below are 5 basic exercises you can do at home, without machines or complications. You only need a pair of dumbbells, a mat and some motivation.
1. Dumbbell squats
Targets: legs and glutes.
3 sets of 12 repetitions.
Tip: keep your chest up and your knees aligned with your feet.

2. Shoulder press
Targets: shoulders and arms.
3 sets of 10 repetitions.
Tip: raise your arms with control, without arching your back.

3. Bent-over dumbbell row
Targets: back and biceps.
3 sets of 12 repetitions.
Tip: hinge at the hips without rounding your back.

4. Bicep curl
Targets: arms.
3 sets of 15 repetitions.
Tip: don't swing your body; only move your forearms.

5. Plank with dumbbell (optional)
Targets: abs and core.
3 sets of 30 seconds.
Tip: if this is difficult, start without weight.

Do this routine 2–3 times a week. Leave at least one rest day between sessions.
